A youth ministry is vital to the growth and development of a teenager. The teenage years are physically, emotionally, and spiritually challenging, and it is imperative to address the special needs of this age group. Calvary's youth ministry strives to support teens (and parents) as they navigate these exciting, and sometimes confusing, years. Spiritually, the teens are provided with a Sunday school class and special Wednesday evening services that can deal with the issues that are pertinent to them. A devotional challenge is given at each teen activity to help them further reinforce their beliefs and to provide a salvation challenge for anyone who might not yet have accepted Christ.

Activities are planned to provide social growth and interaction. These include such fun activities as bowling, miniature golf, scavenger hunts, gym night, softball, and much, much more. Summer camp, the spring campout, and a winter ski trip are exciting "big" activities that provide both fun and the opportunity for concentrated spiritual growth. Further, the members of the youth group are encouraged to expand their capabilities by serving in Vacation Bible School, helping with the Children's Harvest Party, and by going out into the community on youth visitation every other Wednesday afternoon during the school year. They can relate how they've grown and seen God work during testimony time at the monthly youth sing.

The youth ministry is available to young adults who are in seventh through twelfth grades. Pastor Derrick Suttles and his wife, Katie, teach this age group and plan activities for them. Pastor Derrick joined the staff of Calvary Baptist Church in August of 2004 as the Youth Pastor. He graduated from Ambassador Baptist College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Studies, and his wife, Katie, also graduated from Ambassador with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in June of the same year. Pastor Derrick and Miss Katie have two daughters, Emily and Bethany.
